Daniel Bombardier (DENIAL)

D3N!@L or DENIAL, born Daniel Joseph Bombardier on September 27th 1976, is a Canadian graffiti and mixed-media artist and designer. In 2000 he created and adopted the graffiti moniker “DENIAL” as a signature as well as an alter ego for his creative work. The pseudonym “Denial” is an alpha-numerical phonetic mix-up representing his first name. By definition it is meant to poke fun at modern advertising, politics and media messages that society is often “in denial” about.

Denial is known for his prolific guerrilla style marketing campaigns which take aim publicly at such ideas as social justice, pop culture, media and new world order conspiracy theory. With over 500,000 of his adhesive insignias being displayed in public places around the world the DENIAL project has become more of a conceptual piece of marketing absurd-ism. DENIAL intends to challenge traditional ideas about graffiti and public art as well as the excessive corporate use of public space. Street art is a very transient form of expression with a generally short life span; frustrated by this DENIAL began to bridge these ideas from the street onto tangible works of art that galleries and collectors could procure without the expiration they would have as public art.

DENIAL’s background in graffiti, graphic design, and traditional sign manufacturing, has evolved into the production of vivid mixed-media paintings, often depicting over-sized signage, over-sized magazine and newspaper covers, and classic pin-up models all portrayed with cryptic abstract and urban themes.

DENIAL creates his imaginative contemporary art works in Southwestern Ontario but his pieces are popping up all over North America. His mix of graphic design and elements of graffiti added to a retro-pop aesthetic completes his final product. DENIAL's multi-faceted art career has now taken on another dynamic as his creations are moving towards more exclusive work. DENIAL utilizes the art of stencilling to its fullest extent by creating various numbered paintings intended to be more accessible for collectors. While these works are still available he now creates custom stencils only to be used once for a single original painting then destroyed. DENIAL's work is original and interior designer friendly as it easily defines unique spaces.
